Did you know ?
The fishing villages of Gothenburg are located along the harbors and the sea. Their houses all have a similar appearance: they are made of wood and are yellow in color.
Why ?
You should know that the fishermen, although very prolific in the region, are very poor workers. When they were set up on the coast, it was necessary to build a small pied-à-terre with the lowest possible production cost.
Wood being a very easy resource to find, it was only natural that these sailors built their house with this material.
As for the color, the reason is also economic. Wanting something more "lively" than raw wood, they had to make do with the natural pigments present in the region. Namely… the earth! With an ocher or red color depending on the region, these natural pigments were used as a base for the paintings of the wooden facades.
